6/24/89 - featured an ad for the Music City Showdown home video; included Jim Ross conducting an interview with Rick & Scott Steiner, Missy Hyatt, and Robin Green in which Scott teased Rick about having a girlfriend before Rick gave Robin several roses; featured Ross conducting an interview with Terry Funk regarding the press conference the following week with NWA World Champion Ric Flair in which Flair would announce what his future would be; during the segment, Funk said he would beat Flair to win the title; included Ross speaking with Eddie Gilbert in which he introduced Tommy Rich back to the NWA, with Rich then cutting a promo on NWA US Chapion Lex Luger for his comments earlier in the show and saying he would be wrestling in the ring the next week; moments later, Ross interviewed Gilbert about trying to burn the Great Muta at the Clash, with Gary Hart then appearing and insulting Missy Hyatt until Gilbert attacked him; moments later, Muta appeared, blew red mist in Gilbert's face, and repeatedly hit Gilbert with a kendo stick:
Steve Williams Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane (w/ Jim Cornette) defeated Keith Steinborn, Jeff James, & Fred Avery at 2:20 when Williams pinned James with an elbow drop to the back of the head following the Flapjack from Eaton & Lane; during the bout, NWA Tag Team Champion Michael Hayes taunted Cornette from the broadcast position until Williams got in Hayes' face; moments later, Hayes brought out Terry Gordy and NWA Tag Team Champion Jimmy Garvin; after the match, Cornette cut an in-ring promo challenging the Freebirds since they were so sure they could beat the Midnight Express; Hayes then said there would be no fight because the Freebirds didn't come to wrestle; after the two traded words, Garvin and Gordy fought with Eaton & Lane inside the ring as Williams made sure Hayes - who was not able to fight due to being a commentator - didn't become involved; during the fight, Lane covered Garvin with an inside cradle and referee Tommy Young counted to three; after the commercial break, Jim Ross provoked the Freebirds into facing the MX later in the show since they were so sure they could beat them
NWA TV Champion Sting defeated Chance Myers via submission with the Scorpion Deathlock at the 26-second mark; after the bout, Ross conducted an interview with Sting about his recent title defenses - including some in Japan - and about the recent actions by NWA US Champion Lex Luger; after Sting said he was disappointed, Luger appeared and reminded Sting it was he who took Sting under his wing when Sting came into the NWA, with Sting saying Luger made him sick and then walked off; after Sting left, Luger said he was sick of kids asking him for autographs and told Ricky Steamboat to avoid him and give up his spot as the #1 contender
